During 1-15 June, Angkasa Pura Airports served 5,628 aircraft movements with 222,040 passengers and 12.9 million kg of cargo at 15 of its managed airports. Passenger traffic in early June showed an increase compared to traffic in May 2020 which was only 76,841 passengers.
"In the early to mid-June, indication of an increase in passenger traffic has been seen compared to last May in which transportation restrictions were imposed in May. We are optimistic that traffic will continue to increase going forward, albeit slowly,” Angkasa Pura Airports President Director Faik Fahmi revealed in a statement, Wednesday, June 17.
To anticipate an increase in traffic due to new normal preparatory phase, Angkasa Pura Airports has carried out information on the application of the new normal protocol to airport stakeholders, from business partners to airport service users, Faik Fahmi added.
In the early period of this June, Sultan Hasanuddin Airport served the highest passenger traffic of 53,940 people with 996 aircraft movements. While the second highest passenger traffic occurred at Juanda Airport in Surabaya, reaching up 50,261 people with 886 aircraft movements. The third highest passenger traffic occurred at SAMS Sepinggan Airport in Balikpapan, which was 34,345 people with 659 aircraft movements.
"Sultan Hasanuddin Makassar Airport serves the highest passenger traffic because the airport is a transit airport or hub that connects with other airports in eastern Indonesia," Faik Fahmi explained.
From January to May this year, Angkasa Pura Airports serves 18.7 million passengers in a total, plummeted 40.36% from the same period in 2019, which reached 31.4 million passengers.
Meanwhile, aircraft traffic in January-May 2020 was 199,858 movements, drop 34.09% compared to the same period in 2019 which was 303,223 movements. Declining in traffic also occurred in cargo, although the decline was not as deep as the decline in passenger and aircraft traffic. Cargo traffic in that period was 143,954,153 kg, slip up 28.68% compared to the same period last year as much as 243,866,529 kg.
"The lowest passenger traffic occurred in May, which only reached 76,841 passengers. This is the impact of transportation control policies and travel for people in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19, especially during the Lebaran homecoming ban," he explained.
Whereas the passenger traffic in January 2020 was 7,067,556 passengers, February there were 6,050,373 passengers, March 4,673,220 passengers, and April 860,765 passengers.
During January-May, the highest passenger traffic occurred at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Bali, totaling 4,768,342 passengers. But the highest decline in passenger traffic also occurred at the airport where reached 47.13% from the same period last year 9,019,366 passengers.
The second highest traffic noted at Juanda Airport in Surabaya, amounting to 3,897,887 passengers. While the third highest traffic in this period occurred at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport Makassar, as much as 2,704,484 passengers. (hlz/hlz)
